The Learning Lair is a place where we share with the world around us the news about what is happening in the 5/6S classroom. It is a place for us to celebrate what we have accomplished and display what we are striving towards.

Keeping personal information safe is extremely important to us. We have spent a lot of time discussing how to stay Smart and Cyber safe while online. It is because of this that we think it is also important for our visitors to remember to do the same when they are on our blog as well. Visitors should read our blogging guidelines before they leave us a comment on one of our posts or pages.
These guidelines are the agreements that we follow in our classroom to make sure that we are keeping ourselves and others safe while blogging. If our visitors follow these agreements, they will be helping to keep themselves and others safe too.

Blogging guidelines in 5/6S
1. Visitors should only refer to students and themselves by his or her FIRST name when leaving a comment. If you are a parent simply say "I am Charlie, Jackson's Dad", rather than including your last name.
2. Visitors should NEVER include personal information about themselves or others when leaving a comment. This includes information like your address, last name, school name, school address, phone number, passwords or your personal plans.
3. Visitors should always remember to show Mutual Respect and Appreciations only when commenting on the blog. They should NEVER leave hurtful comments about someone or their work. We should be polite, respectful and courteous
4. Please remember that all comments submitted to the blog are viewed and approved by Mrs. Sinnott and the students of 5/6S before they are included on the blog for everyone to see.
5. Students will be encouraged to read and comment on other class and student blogs with teacher/parent supervision
6. Others work, music, videos and pictures will not be used without permission and attribution.
7. All students must have parental permission to comment on other class blogs
8. Remember blogging is about reading, thinking and responding!

How to write a good comment
To write a great comment there are a few things that you should keep in mind:
1. Your comment should be related to the topic in the blog post! If the blog post talks about the Olympics, please don't write about how delicious chocolate is! Most of us agree that chocolate is delicious but that is not an appropriate place for that discussion. Please stick to topic and talk about the Olympics which the blog post was based on.
2. You should always write in full sentences and shouldn't be saying things like "Your post is soooo cool!" or "Awesome picture". Your sentences should be well thought out and express your ideas clearly.
3. Please use proper spelling, punctuation and grammar and make sure you proof read all of your comments before posting.
4. Make your comment worth reading and leave a question or two at the end for people to respond to, or for the original blogger to continue your conversation.
Remember, this blog represents our class, so make sure you always give your best effort to share great writing!
