On your literacy grid this fortnight you are asked to create your own EdPuzzle. You will need to choose from the animated clips below as to which one you will choose. I suggest you watch the whole thing first as you need to understand what is happening in the film before you can set a range of comprehension questions for others to answer. When you watch it a second time, pause it and write down the time, along with your question (this will make it easier to add to EdPuzzle once you have finished designing your questions). The questions you develop for your chosen animation should test the viewers comprehension as well as their inferring skills (predicting and guessing what is going to happen by using the clues available to them!). Make sure that your questions are not closed questions - this means that the answer will not just be a yes or no type answer. Make sure that you think about the film on a deeper level and ask questions that will challenge the viewer while also asking for opinions on some things. Good luck! I look forward to sharing all of your fabulous work with the world!
This week we are looking at making inferences in animations. It doesn't matter what text type you practice make inferences with, as you can transfer the skills to all other types. There are different levels of 'inferences'; some are fairly straightforward and easy to see/find; some you need to look/think deeper to make sense of things; and others require your opinion based on some of the information you see or read. All of these types of inferences are covered in this activity. For our first go at using EDpuzzle last week I was impressed with how everyone went, however this week I would love for you to respond with thought and detail. This means that I would like the answers to be in full sentences, and preferably ones which explain your answers. Keep this in mind as you tackle the task this week! I almost forgot, you will need to use our class code and your login details again to access the video. Have fun! aKLR3R Your viewing activity this week is using a new tool called Edpuzzle. (For the teachers out there it is a really great website that allows you to create video lessons where you can embed questions and assessment as the students are watching! Even better, you can track their progress and their responses as well!) Our reading focus is 'Making Predictions and providing evidence and support for our predictions'. This week you will need to watch the Avicci film clip in Edpuzzle and answer the questions as you go (they ask you to make predictions on what is happening). Remember to respond with thought and detail and have a good, hard think about 'what could be happing' and 'why this could be happening'….don't just say you don't know! When you login with Edpuzzle you will need to create an account with a username and a password (it may be best to write these into your school diary so that you don't forget for future work). YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUPPLY AN EMAIL. After you have registered it will ask you to enter a class. To be able to enter OUR class you will need to enter this code: aKLR3R NOW YOU ARE READY TO START! Click to set custom HTML Leave a comment to let me know if you enjoyed using Edpuzzle?? For your task today you will be practicing the skill of inferencing. Inferencing basically means that you are trying to figure out what is happening in a text/film when you haven't really been given all of the information. Generally when you make an 'inference' or prediction, you use things that were said in the text or things that happened to support why you think the way you do. A good author or film maker will keep you guessing and that is why inferencing is such an important skill! Today you will need to watch the clip below "Dreamgiver' and answer the questions listed underneath. I would like you to copy the text of the questions below, paste them into your own word document and then you can type your answers straight on. Save this document and then upload it to submit it to me. I will check it and make a comment on your blog letting you know how you went. DREAMGIVER QUESTIONS
1) Answer the following: a) Who are the characters in this short film? (You may not know names but you can describe characters based on their features or what you think they might be) b) What is happening? c) Where is the short film taking place/set? d) When is this taking place? (this may not be the date or day, but you may be able to tell other details about when things are happening). e) Why is this happening? 2) Describe the character using similes and metaphor. For example he has a nose as big as an elephants trunk. Make sure you write enough detail so that someone would be able to create a picture in their heads. Keep in mind that not every sentence has to be a simile or metaphor, but they will help you create a more vivd description! 3) Does the story change? How? 4) Was there a pattern to what the children were dreaming about? 5) Where are the children from? How do you know? 6) What happened when the egg is accidentally spilt onto the shadow serpent? Making inferences is a really important part of the reading process. You are making inferences when you predict what will happen in a text based on clues you have already received....so a lot of you are already doing this quite regularly! If you do not make inferences however, you probably won't be able to fully understand what you are reading about and why things are happening....reading is like piecing together parts of a puzzle! To practice your inferencing skills you are going to watch the short animation 'Big Buck Bunny' and then complete the Socrative quiz by clicking on the following link http://m.socrative.com and enter the Room Number: 898250. Make sure that respond with thought and detail and include as much as you can to answer the question thoroughly as they will be directly submitted to me! For your 'Viewing' activity this week you will be watching a short, silent animation film called 'A Shadow of Blue'. Like with all viewing activities you will need to watch carefully and pay attention to detail, especially as this film has no dialogue (talking!). Once you have finished watching the clip you will need to answer some questions. However, instead of writing all of the answers down in your English book, I would like you to use VoiceThread to record your responses. You may need to find a quiet spot to record yourself so that your voice is nice and clear. While working on the iPads you will need to use this link https://voicethread.com/share/4738012/. To create your own identity find an image or icon (not a photo of yourself) and save into your folder. Click on my icon and then click create a new identity and upload you image then you are right to go. If you have any questions please ask before you begin! A Shadow of Blue Comprehension Questions 1) Who is the girl? 2) Why is she all alone in the park/woods? 3) What do you think she is like? 4) Why does she seem so thoughtful and maybe a little sad? 5) Do you think the shadow has the same personality as the little girl? Why? 6) Does the music have an effect on you when you watch this? Explain. 7) What emotions do you think she is feeling when she scares off the crow in the branches? 8) Who is the lady watching? What can we tell from her dress? Her expression? What is she doing? 9) Why was the girl so imaginative? Why did her shadow have all of the adventures? 10) What does the blue butterfly do at the end? CHALLENGE: Perhaps the little girl writes an imaginary diary each night about her shadows adventures. Write down a diary entry for the adventure you just watched (this can be done in your English book) Last week in our Strategy Groups we looked at the skill of inferencing and how this requires us to use our 'schema' and the clues within a text to make sense of what is happening. So this week you are going to watch a very short clip, the official trailer to an upcoming Dreamworks movie,Turbo, and answer some questions that will require you to practice this skill. Some questions will be 'hand' questions and you will be able to see or hear the answer, others will be 'head' questions which will require you to make some inferences based on the clues, and others will be 'heart' questions which will ask you what you think or feel about something. Post your answers by adding a comment to this blog post. Make sure you check your work before submitting it!! 1. How long does it take Turbo to complete his first race?
2. What is Turbo's wish/dream? 3. What number does Turbo have on his shell? 4. What cause Turbo to become so fast? 5. Fill in the gaps: 'You clearly got the...........to pay the...........' 6. Name the members of the 'crew'. 7. Name two other films that were made by the creators of Turbo 8. What is Turbo destined for? 9. What is the main theme or message? 10. Why do you think snails were used as the main characters in the movie? 11. Are their any other movies that Turbo reminds you of? List them. 12. What does it mean when it says 'FIND YOUR CREW'? |
