Last week we spent some time taking a closer look at different types of figurative language, how it helps to create strong visual images and what they mean. This week we are going to see how well we understood them by completing short quiz. Make sure that you put your name and email in correctly as once you have finished the quiz and submitted your answers you will be sent an email with a summary of how well you went. You will see the questions that you got right as well as those you answered incorrectly as well as some feedback for future work on figurative language. Good luck!

One of your literacy tasks this week is to respond critically and thoughtfully to the short animation 'Monkey Symphony'. The video is created using Edpuzzle which means that it will stop at various points and ask you questions and it will not continue until you have answered them. When you answer please make sure that you are adding detail to support your thinking....I look forward to reading your answers! The code you will need is aKLR3R
As one of our global awareness projects this year we are looking at the impacts of the production and use of 'palm oil'. We have watched some videos and documentaries in class and had many thoughtful discussions on this topic. We all strongly disagree with the use of non-sustainable palm oil and we are now working on identifying our suggestions for improving the situation. In order to show their stance on this issue students used the app VideoScribe. Check out the examples below: Last week we spent the week exploring different types of symmetry and transformations of objects. One of our class activities was to explore our school grounds and see if we could identify any object, shapes or patterns that have one or more lines of symmetry. We took photos and loaded these into the app Skitch to draw the lines of symmetry we knew. As you can see by this short Animoto video, there is plenty of symmetry in our school! How do you explore symmetry in your classroom?
Hi there grade 6's I hope you are behaving and enjoying your time without us while we are on camp! Here is one of your Literacy Grid activities: 4 pics 1 word. Many of you will be familiar with this from the app that many people have on their iPhones. You need to look at the four pictures and try to find the common word that fits with the amount of letters and the options available. You will need to write the heading in your English books, then write the number of the card you a doing and then obviously your answer. Once you have completed all of your answers, kindly ask the teacher for the answer sheet to correct your work. Challenge yourself with this activity, don't give all of your answers away!

Over the last two weeks we have been learning about all things Place Value. How to read, write and order whole and decimal numbers; how to round numbers and place them on number lines accurately etc. To kick start our lesson yesterday we played a warm-up game called 'What's my number? (a little bit like Guess Who? but with a number). Each student had a number stuck on their back (as you can see in the pictures) and had 15 minutes to roam around the room asking other students place value minded questions. For example: am I a decimal number? Do I go up to thousandths? Am I a 6 digit number? Students had to collect all of the clues and information they could to try to determine what their number was. Take a look at some of it in action below! Have you used a great warm-up for place value before? Let us know what it is.
That's right the common link is Palm Oil, a substance used in many of the products we consume and use every single day. Before I told the students what the link was we watched the video clip above right, to put some perspective on things, and to help them make the connections themselves. Throughout the rest of this term we will be learning more about Palm Oil, and more importantly we will be learning about the global effects of continued production. We hope you continue to visit to watch us all grow as global citizens who can impact change in the world no matter how big or small! I'll leave you with this short clip to give you bit more of a background on palm oil production. Last week we began talking about Growth Mindset and changing our words to change our thoughts. As a class we are hoping to challenge some of our old 'Fixed Mindset' behaviours and self-talk, and start thinking in a more positive way. We are ready to let our brains grow with new knowledge. To help you understand a little more about Growth Mindset watch this short clip and take a look at the poster below. Do you use 'Growth Mindset' in your class?
Can you identify with some of the fixed mindset statements? Can you identify with some of the growth mindset statements? Well the new school year has finally begun....can you believe your child is now one of the grown ups of the school? This year students will be creating digital port folio's of their learning. We will be focusing on becoming more reflective with our learning in 5/6S and will be aiming to use feedback to help us improve across the curriculum. One of the ways that we can be more accountable for our learning in 5/6S is by keeping our parents, yes you, involved in the learning process. We would like to be able to share the work that we are proud of with you at home. If you are interested and willing to be a part of this, please fill out the form below and click submit (all information will go directly to me, Mrs. Sinnott AKA Leah:) Hi guys, here is the link to the online banner maker I would like you to use.
